The Indus river which lends it’s name to India itself flows in the cold deserts, it originates from Kailash Mountains near Man Sarovar in Tibet enters the Ladakh passes through the Leh Valley and then goes to Pakistan.
Of the entire rivers originating from Himalayan ranges Indus has the most scenic beauties flowing through mountains, with various monasteries beside the riverbank.
The rafting in icy cold and clear water with rapids of I and II and some III degree is a very awesome experience for the rafters.
There are various rafting tours and one can choose according to his own skill and courage.
The Pheh – Nemu route mostly with grade II and III consisting of 40 kms , rafting in the water with beautiful mountains all around you. This route is for the experienced rafters only.
The another route is Upshi- Khalsey route , is not much difficult and beginners may do rafting here, the graded of the danger is I and II only.
The Spituk –Saspot route is short but the river here is wild and it is recommended for the experts only.
The Spituk –Karo is an excellent opportunity for the learners. Here one can learn skills of the rafting with relatively very low risk of injury.
There are tours operators in Leh providing the rafting equipments on hire and a pilot guides are also available.
